Quilt & Fiber Arts
My primary focus is creating Art Quilts to express ideas or feelings that sometimes can’t be expressed in words. I think imagery is the best language. I love the quilt medium because I can still incorporate painting and there is the added dimension of the thread work. The shadows created with stitching the layers of fabric and batting is such a simple thing but very exciting to me.
In the past year, I’ve been exploring new ways of constructing, stitching, and the use of materials. These works are a part of 3 different series I’m working on: X’s & O’s (exploring the simple shapes of x and o), Scar Tissue (saved clipped threads turned into fabric and further manipulated into transparent, lacy, multicolored works), and Thought Processes (Inspired by the work of Gustav Klimt that morphed into illustrations of ways the brain might work in creativity, memory, logic, and whatever else comes up).
I also make SkyGirl© Dolls which are described often as adorable alien creatures. These dolls are available in my Etsy shop along with many other unique items. I accept custom orders on dolls, quilts, and really just about anything else!
The Gallery on High, in Pottstown, is like home base to me. I offer workshops every season geared toward sewing, quilting and other art processes that relate to art quilt making for adults and kids. And of course, they have my art there, too.
